In February 2026, the Shed received a request from the Bushton Wildlife Group for the construction of bird boxes to support their local wildlife activities. The request was for two different types of boxes: open-fronted bird boxes and standard enclosed bird boxes.
To undertake the project, the Shed purchased one sheet of hardwood plywood. This was supplemented with suitable odd pieces of timber already held by the Shed from a previous project. Making use of these existing materials helped ensure that available resources were put to good use while keeping the additional material requirements to a minimum.
Various members of the Shed contributed to the construction work. The requested boxes were successfully completed, consisting of:
- 3 open-fronted bird boxes
- 4 standard enclosed bird boxes
- 7 bird boxes in total
Once completed, all of the bird boxes were handed over to the Bushton Wildlife Group for installation and use.
The project demonstrates the Shed’s ability to respond to requests from local community and wildlife groups, work collaboratively using members’ practical skills, and make effective use of both newly purchased and existing materials. The request was completed successfully and the finished bird boxes were provided to the group as intended.
